What if you could learn to relax
and begin to enjoy your life?
Life can seem so difficult when you are under stress. Anxiety and worry increase. Happiness and peace of mind slip away. The experiences of everyday life become burdensome, even drudgery. I help people who lead stressful lives and want to learn to relax and enjoy themselves more. The stress may be resulting from relationship or marital issues, the pressures of work, financial difficulties, or a significant life event. You may not know exactly where the stress is coming from; perhaps you’ve always felt this way.
- Do you worry a lot?
- Does your mind keep going when you try to slow down?
- Are you feeling frustrated and discontent with your spouse or partner or in other important relationships?
- Is your “to do” list never ending?
- Have you found that you don’t have time to have fun anymore?
- Do you have trouble sleeping?
- Do you dread going to work or coming home at the end of the day?
- Do you have panic attacks?

As human beings, we have an internal process to help us survive imminent, life-threatening danger. You know it as the “fight or flight” response or stress response. Our heart beats faster; our breathing becomes rapid and shallow; our blood pressure increases, our muscles tense. This stress response is helpful to us if our lives are at stake, but it doesn’t serve us well in everyday life, when we are running errands, caring for our children, or in the middle of a meeting at work. Chronic stress has been found to have many negative effects on the body and mind, leading to feelings of depression and anxiety, and suppressing the immune system, making us more vulnerable to many illnesses, including heart disease, obesity, and even cancer.
Reducing the effects of stress in our lives results in happier personal and professional relationships, better health, and a more positive outlook not only on the future, but the everyday moments as well. I can help you learn specific, powerful ways to reduce the effects of stress so you can begin to feel better and more in control of your life.
I can help you to comfortably slow down and relax using simple yet effective techniques such as abdominal breathing, muscle relaxation, meditation, and stretching. These practices bring about the counterpart to the stress response, called the relaxation response, slowing heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and bringing about an overall sense of well-being and clarity of mind. I use these and other stress-relieving techniques in my psychotherapy practice, to help you to explore the main source of chronic stress and anxiety, find new ways to handle it more effectively, and make strides toward enjoying an overall happier, healthier, more balanced life.
If you are experiencing the negative effects of stress, I invite you to call 978-369-1013 and speak with me briefly. I will determine if I have the right skills to help you, and you can decide if you wish to make an appointment for an initial session. If you reach my voicemail, please leave your phone number and several good times to reach you. I look forward to speaking with you.
